Wonton soup is a traditional Chinese dish known for its light yet flavorful broth and savory dumplings. This recipe uses ground chicken or shrimp for the wontons, making it a satisfying yet delicate meal. It’s perfect for a light dinner or as part of a larger meal.
Ingredients:
Wontons:
- 1 pound ground chicken or shrimp
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 package wonton wrappers
Soup:
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups bok choy, chopped
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken or shrimp with the green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Mix well to combine.
- Place a teaspoon of filling into the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper into a triangle shape, and press to seal. Bring the two corners of the triangle together and pinch to seal. Repeat with all wrappers.
- Bring the chicken broth and water to a boil in a large pot. Add the bok choy and mushrooms, cooking for 3-4 minutes until tender.
- Carefully add the wontons to the boiling broth and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the wontons float to the surface.
- Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Serve the soup hot, garnished with green onions.
