Homemade Wonton Soup Recipe

Wonton soup is a traditional Chinese dish known for its light yet flavorful broth and savory dumplings. This recipe uses ground chicken or shrimp for the wontons, making it a satisfying yet delicate meal. It’s perfect for a light dinner or as part of a larger meal.

Ingredients:

Wontons:

  • 1 pound ground chicken or shrimp
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 package wonton wrappers

Soup:

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups bok choy, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken or shrimp with the green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Mix well to combine.
  2. Place a teaspoon of filling into the center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper into a triangle shape, and press to seal. Bring the two corners of the triangle together and pinch to seal. Repeat with all wrappers.
  3. Bring the chicken broth and water to a boil in a large pot. Add the bok choy and mushrooms, cooking for 3-4 minutes until tender.
  4. Carefully add the wontons to the boiling broth and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the wontons float to the surface.
  5. Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the soup hot, garnished with green onions.
