Ingredients
- 10 sticks mozzarella string cheese
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- Cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Slice each mozzarella stick into 3–4 equal pieces. Keep the sizes uniform so they cook evenly.
- In one bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together. Place flour in a second bowl and breadcrumbs in a third. Line them up in this order: flour, egg mix, breadcrumbs.
- Roll each piece in flour, dip into the egg mix, then press into breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, dip again into the egg and breadcrumbs.
- Place the coated bites on a plate and freeze for 15–20 minutes to help the coating stay intact during frying.
- Pour 2 inches of vegetable oil into a skillet. Heat over medium until it reaches 350°F. Drop in a breadcrumb—if it sizzles, it’s ready.
- Carefully lower 5–7 bites into the hot oil. Fry for about 30 seconds, or until golden. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Transfer to paper towels to drain. Let them cool slightly, then serve warm with marinara or your favorite dip.
